Using TAMS 60488 with LabWindows/CVI, LabView, and Measurement Studio. |
TAMS 60488 GPIB card is designed to work only by using SICL function calls. These are specified by Agilent Technologies in their TULIP driver implementation, which is not compatible with the way National Instruments control their cards. However, now the National Instruments implementation supports cards that work using VISA function calls. VISA stands for “Virtual Instrument Software Architecture” and is a protocol that works on top of SICL. Therefore, our card will work under LabView using VISA. The following is a solution to get our card working with LabWindows/CVI, LabView, and Measurement Studio.
Make sure you have National's NI-VISA 2.5 libraries or later but do not install it yet. The libraries are available from the National Instruments website. Then click on Next and you should get a window like this: Once you are finished, you should be able to send commands to the TAMS 60488 card from LabView by using the VISA name you chose for the TAMS 60488 card when you configured it using the IO Config utility. |
